RCN App

"Rochester Childfirst Network"

"Making the parental experience more informed and convenient in a Non-profitable childcare service."

Project Information:

This project was a part of “UX Studio” which is a week-long design jam hosted by the iSchool in the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences. From January 14th–21st, 2022, teams of four worked together virtually to create designs for non-profit organizations. Our team was assigned to Rochester Childfirst Network (RCN). My primary responsibilities were: designing the use case diagram, initial research, team coordination, and project management. And the best part, our team won the competition       .

Approach:

Given that we only had 1 week to design the application, we decided to take the hypothesis-driven approach.

Initial Discussion:

We had a meeting to discuss our direction of the project. I had designed a basic User Flow diagram to get a general idea of what the client’s requirements are. As this is just a week-long design jam, we decided to focus only on one problem which the client is most concerned about which was uncertainty in pick-up and drop-off from the center.

Notifying parents about last minute changes in school timings is a bit difficult.

If the person picking up the child is unauthorized, the school is uncertain whether to hand over the child to that person.

If there is any delay in picking up the child from the parents side, there is currently now way of notifying the school regarding that.

Journey Map

After the initial discussion, we worked on a few scenarios from the parents’ point of view, noted their actions which they are currently taking, their pain points and the plausible solution for the particular scenario.

Design:

The client had requested a safe, minimalist and recognizable application. We also addressed the client’s concern about the parents using old phones or who have limited access to the internet. Considering the system as a whole, we designed text messages for the notification center on phones. The UI is designed in Figma.
